光绪元宝为清朝光绪年间流通的货币之一。清代银币、纸币、铜币并行，至嘉庆年间发行新式银元，而光绪年间铸行金、银币更多。洋务运动也影响到铸币业，两广总督张之洞曾于光绪十三年(1887年)委托使英大臣在英国订购全套造币机器，并在广东钱局首铸机制银元和铜元。其后，各省纷纷仿效，购制国外机械铸造银。

但清末王述生所著《述庵秘录》的记载，有学者持此类银币是光绪二十年(1894年)广东巡抚刚毅为祝慈禧太后六十寿辰而铸造的祝寿币，“实铸额不详。”张执群先生在《造币钢模》书中收录有“广东省造寿字银币，钢模数套，分七钱二分和一两共两种”之言，故认为还有一版七钱二分，可并未流通，或是试铸币、错版币，系第一批送京的样币，为慈禧60大寿所铸，因有个分字不吉利去掉分字改铸为七钱二，或慈禧70大寿祝寿去掉分字改铸为七钱二。

库平壹两的版式，由于广东省当时铸造此币的目的是奉献清廷以祝慈禧太后万寿，所以铸额不大，大多奉献给清廷或赠于当时的达官显贵，民间流通的很少，真品凤毛麟角。此枚广东省造双龙寿字币乃罕见的库平壹两版式，正面：珠圈内铸有满、汉文“光绪元宝”四字，珠圈外上端镌 “广东省造”四字，下端镌刻楷书“库平重壹两”五字，左右两侧各镌有一蝙蝠图案。背面：珠圈内铸一圆形“寿”字，珠圈外铸双龙戏珠图案。
