In the garden of gems there lived a fox with a long silky beard.

The garden of gems also had many beautiful jewels.

The fox's job was to look after the gems, so he put up a copper fence and had his long silky beard.

He would growl and bare his teeth at anyone who wanted to see the jewels, so they would run away in fright.

In his beard there lived a little fox as light as the eye of a flower, but even cuter.

She was his daughter, and he hid her in his beard.

The little fox was always sleeping or using her dad's whiskers as a swing.

Whenever the fox would bare his teeth or growl, his daughter would be right there, smiling all the while.

Once a brave and handsome young man entered the garden of gems, saw the beautiful little fox, and fell in love.

The little fox was swinging, lost her grip and fell to the ground.

The young man ran to pick her up, and placed her in his palm.

The old fox was scared half to death ; his daughter had never been out of his beard before! This was the first time, and it made the old fox very, very nervous.

"Hello. Can I keep her? I'll take good care of her. I love her," the young man said to the fox.

"No! No!! Put her down! I'll give you all the jewels in the garden if you give her back to me," the old fox cried.

"I don't want jewels, I want the little fox."

"No! No! I can't be without her. I'll give you all the jewels, but I can't be without her!"

The old fox offered a sapphire as blue as the sea, but the man shook his head ;

The fox offered a ruby as red as fire, but the man shook his head;

The fox offered him a crystal as clead and bright as glass, but the man still shook his head ;

The fox offered him jewels of every size and shape and color, but the young man would not put the little fox down.

He said, "I would not trade this little fox for anything else in the world."

Sitting in the palm of his hand, the little fox blushed happily.

Poof!

In an instant the garden of gems had disappeared, and the old fox had become a king once again, for he and his daughter had been under a spell.

"I am so happy that you love my daughter so. You have saved us both, and I am deeply grateful, " the king said to the young man.

The young man looked at the little fox who was rapidly growing and changing into a beautiful princess. She didn't look like a fox at all!

He shook his head, put the princess down, and left.

So the king became a fox again, and the princess too became a little fox and jumped into his beard.

Since that day, the old fox continued to growl and snap at everyone who came to the garden of gems, but now with a happy heart.

And his daughter, the little fox, played happily in her swing, smiling an laughing all day.
